(Patria) - Prime Minister of the Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDC) Nezir Pivić and President of the ZDC Assembly Ćazim Huskić sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of March 1, Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"Independence Day symbolizes the historic decision of the citizens who, on February 29 and March 1, 1992, clearly opted for a sovereign and independent state, a community of equal peoples and all its citizens at the referendum.
The independence of our homeland was paid at the highest price - with the lives and health of numerous patriots who stood in its defense against aggression. With deep respect and lasting gratitude, we remember the martyrs, fallen soldiers and war veterans with disabilities, as well as all those who contributed to preserving the freedom and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Having defended independence, we have assumed a permanent obligation to build strong institutions, strengthen the rule of law and create conditions for a quality life for all citizens in a safe, stable and prosperous society.
The path to membership in the European Union and NATO alliance represents a strategic commitment and confirmation of our dedication to peace, stability and European values.
On this great holiday, let us be proud of our homeland, preserve its fundamental values and work together on its further development," Pivić and Huskić stated in the congratulatory message.
The ceremonial academy, as the central program of marking BiH Independence Day organized by the ZDC Government, will be held tonight at the Bosnian National Theater Zenica starting at 19:30.
