ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ISSUE: 'Journalists report more informatively, rather than with deeper analysis'

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A three-day training on the topic of environmental protection intended for journalists from all parts of BiH, which is being implemented within the project “Think of Nature”, is being held at the “Holiday” hotel in Sarajevo. On this occasion, project manager of the Center for the Promotion of Civil Society (CPCD) Dajana Cvjetković said that the goal of this training is for journalists to actually improve their knowledge and skills on reporting environmental topics. 

“We are aware of the number of environmental topics in BiH, but it is also evident that journalists report on these topics more informatively, rather than with a deeper analysis of what is actually happening in that area, not taking into account all angles of the story and actually omitting the most important angle, which is the basis with facts and evidence in science”, said Cvjetković. 

Today's training had various speakers who talked about different angles of reporting on this topic.

One of the lecturers was journalist of the Center for Investigative Journalism in Serbia Dina Đorđević, who was awarded for reporting on the construction of small hydropower plants in this country.

"The Center for Investigative Journalism kept the topic of construction of mini hydropower plants hot. We were the first to investigate it. Parallel to that, protests were taking place in Serbia. We encountered resistance from institutions that did not want to give us information. They tried to keep it to themselves. Thanks to the mechanisms of investigative journalism, which can also be used by daily journalists, we managed to obtain important information and results”, stated Đorđević.

The training continues tomorrow, when journalists will present the tasks that the moderators prepared for them, and after the presentation, the awarding of certificates is announced.
