Fifth round of UN Secretary-General voting: Guterres first, followed by Jeremić and Lajčak

Vuk Jeremić, candidate for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated that today's fifth round of voting in the Security Council confirmed that, as he stated, "Serbia is consistently ranked among the top candidates," reports the Patria News Agency.

- This time we are in second place, said Jeremić, adding that they are continuing the campaign from the position of "first place in the Eastern European group," ahead of the final phase of the election in which the permanent members of the Security Council have the option to announce the use of a veto.

Jeremić moved into second place after the fifth round of voting, while former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres remains in first place.

Guterres received 12 positive, two negative, and one undecided vote, while Jeremić received eight positive, six negative, and one undecided vote.

Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčak received eight positive, seven negative, and zero undecided votes in the fifth round, while Argentine Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra won seven positive, seven negative, and one undecided vote.

The previous round was held on September 9, and at that time, former Portuguese Prime Minister Guterres was again first, while Jeremić achieved his best result to date – he was third with two more positive votes than before, reports Tanjug.
