Five years since the death of writer Nedžad Ibrišimović

Nedžad Ibrišimović was born on October 20, 1940, in Sarajevo, where he died on this day, September 15, 2011. He is one of the most famous Bosnian writers. He finished elementary school in Žepče. In 1961, he graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Sarajevo, sculpture department. He graduated in philosophy studies in Sarajevo in 1977, writes the Patria news agency.

He was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1982. From 1982 to 2000, he had ten solo exhibitions.

He was also the president of the Writers' Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1993 to 2001, and from 1995 to 1998, the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine "Život". His works have been translated into Czech, Turkish, Albanian, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian...

After the publication of his novel "Vječnik" (2005), the Writers' Association of BiH nominated him for the Nobel Prize. The novel "Vječnik" broke all sales records at the publishing house Svjetlost from Sarajevo, including Selimović's "Dervish and Death". In January 2009, the eighth edition of "Vječnik" was published by IKD "Šahinpašić", with a total circulation of all editions amounting to 12,000 copies.

His novel "Ugursuz" has also been translated into about ten world languages. "Knjiga Adema Kahrimana" was awarded by the Writers' Association in 1992. The novel "Braća i veziri" received the award from the publishing company "Veselin Masleša" in 1989. The novel "Karabeg" received the 'Svjetlost' award in 1996. 'El-Hidrova knjiga' is a novel published in 2011. In the same year, on September 15, Nedžad Ibrišimović died in Sarajevo at the age of 71.
