Climbing Memorial 'Adnan Ćatić Ćata' Gathers 50 Competitors

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The climbing section „Adnan Ćatić Ćata“, operating within the Mountaineering Society „Skakavac“, today organized a climbing memorial on Sarajevo's Dariva in honor of the deceased athlete. Around 50 competitors took part in today's climbing event. 

The memorial consists of a competitive and a recreational part and represents a unique attraction that enriches Sarajevo's tourist offer. Dariva is one of the rare natural rock climbing sites in Europe located within an urban area.

The competitive part of the memorial involves competitors climbing as many routes as possible within a set time, with each route scored by difficulty. The winner is the one who accumulates the most points, and the competition itself is in accordance with the rules of the International Federation of Sport Climbing.

In the recreational part of the memorial, interested participants will have the opportunity to try climbing on natural rock. Four routes will be provided, along with the necessary equipment to ensure safety, and guides (instructors).

The Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, said today that the late Adnan Ćatić was an exceptionally good person, his friend, and a friend of the Stari Grad municipality.

- I must point out that during the heavy snowfall in 2012, Adnan, together with his team, was one of the volunteers who, without asking for any compensation, cleared snow from the roofs of our schools. He was a unique guy - said Hadžibajrić.

This event is a remembrance of a brave young man who left a deep mark in the affirmation of sport climbing and extreme sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Ćata was an example of a man who showed us all that we can always experience something new, push our limits, be useful to the community, and precisely because of that, he remained a symbol of camaraderie, spreading positive energy, knowledge, and climbing - the organizers stated.

With the climbing memorial „Adnan Ćatić Ćata“, the organizers also aim to promote a healthy lifestyle, a return to nature, sport climbing, as well as the Dariva climbing site, which has existed for over twenty years and can be used for even better tourist promotion of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ćatić was the best BH sport climber. He died in May 2012, when the boat he and his friend were in capsized into the swollen Miljacka River in central Sarajevo.
