Pećanin: The public must be present at the discussion about Dr. Gavrankapetanović

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Attorney Senad Pećanin has requested from the Steering Board of the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) that the public be included in the extraordinary session of this university body, which is being held on Friday at the Rectorate of UNSA.

The first item on the agenda of this extraordinary session is a discussion on the request of Professor Ismet Gavrankapetanović to be reinstated to the position of professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo.

Pećanin reminds that the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Semra Čavaljuga, terminated Professor Gavrankapetanović's work at the faculty because, as stated, Gavrankapetanović stopped working at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo.

In his letter, Pećanin states that no legal argument was provided for the termination of Dr. Gavrankapetanović's work at the Faculty of Medicine. He also added that Dean Čavaljuga acted in this manner even though the Faculty's Legal Service had previously given an opinion that Professor Gavrankapetanović should be allowed an employment relationship at the Faculty.

He reminds that the Faculty of Medicine still employs academic staff who are not employed at KCUS, and that because of this, Dr. Gavrankapetanović has been grossly discriminated against, and his right to work has been denied without justification.

Attorney Pećanin emphasizes that at the last session, members of the UNSA Steering Board rejected Dr. Gavrankapetanović's objection to the termination of his employment at the Faculty of Medicine, thereby knowingly violating the law and abusing their official duties.

- UNSA Rector Rifat Škrijelj, knowing about all the aforementioned irregularities and illegalities in the university's operations, as he was familiar with the positions of the legal services and the inspection findings, abused his position and acted negligently, even though he knew that the termination of Prof. Gavrankapetanović's employment contract was illegal, and that his legal obligations were to ensure legality in the university's operations, in accordance with his powers.

The legal team of Professor Gavrankapetanović has filed criminal charges with the Federal Prosecutor's Office against the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Semra Čavaljuga, members of the UNSA Steering Board who voted against the reinstatement of Prof. Gavrankapetanović to the Faculty of Medicine, the University Rector Rifat Škrijelj, the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Sarajevo, and against unknown persons who mediated in the aforementioned illegalities.
