Pećanac: We are at an impasse, we cannot ensure order in Sarajevo

Minister of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton Nermin Pećanac confirmed in a statement to the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) that the authorities and police in Sarajevo are at an impasse, and that they cannot solve the problem of a group of about a hundred demonstrators who have been blocking traffic in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina for several days.

- Here the police are in an unenviable position. We can remove those demonstrators from Titova Street today, but they will return to Alipašina Street tomorrow – said Pećanac, adding that the problem of dissatisfied demonstrators should be solved by higher levels of government, not the police.

- It is true that a group of citizens should not stop traffic in the city while solving certain problems, but in this country everything is possible – stated Pećanac.

Regarding whether the security situation in Sarajevo has been compromised, the minister did not want to comment, as he said, before an official statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which citizens can expect during the day.
