Beekeepers in BiH will soon be able to register their profession in their work booklet

Beekeepers in Bosnia and Herzegovina will soon be able to register the profession of “beekeeper” in their work booklet, as beekeepers in many European and world countries do, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The Agricultural and Food School from Prijedor and the Prijedor beekeepers' association “Prva pčela” (First Bee) have signed an agreement on one-year training for new beekeepers and further training for existing ones, who will be able to list this profession in their work booklet.

The school is designed according to the most modern European programs. Participants will attend the theoretical part of the classes at the Agricultural and Food School, and the practical part will be conducted at one of the apiaries of Prijedor beekeepers.

The call for the first participants is expected to be published as early as next month, writes Patria.

Rajko Radivojac, president of the Beekeepers' Association from Prijedor, explains that European countries, such as Slovenia, require their beekeepers to be educated for the job they do. Therefore, BiH must also prepare for these standards, which will have to be respected in our country one day.

- We will offer people the opportunity to requalify their profession through our school and become successful beekeepers – explains Radivojac.

- Those who are unemployed, who do not have a trade from which they can earn a decent living, we will be able to train them to become beekeepers and thus secure their livelihood. Of course, beekeepers who are already engaged in this profession will also be able to go through the training program, gain modern knowledge, and become more successful in this business.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has great potential in the field of beekeeping, which can open thousands of new jobs, and due to the quality of bee products, the European Union allowed Bosnia and Herzegovina to export honey to EU member states a few months ago, while this is not the case for most other products of animal origin.

According to expert estimates, a family of four in BiH can provide themselves with decent monthly income from 50 beehives.

Despite these indicators, Bosnia and Herzegovina uses only a small part of the country's beekeeping potential, writes NAP.
