Patria suspends work from 12 to 1:30 PM: Solidarity with imprisoned Al Jazeera journalists

In a show of solidarity with three Al Jazeera journalists (Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed) who have been imprisoned in Cairo since December 29, 2013, editors and journalists of the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP) will suspend work on Monday, from 11 to 11:30 AM, joining hundreds of other newsrooms from the country and around the world that are supporting their imprisoned colleagues in this way.

- Television stations, radio stations and print media newsrooms around the world will show solidarity with the imprisoned journalists by briefly interrupting regular broadcasts or in another appropriate manner - Al Jazeera Balkans announced.

Greste and Fahmy were sentenced to seven-year prison terms, and Mohamed to ten years in prison, after being charged with aiding terrorist groups and spreading false news, in a case that drew international condemnation.

- All programs of the Al Jazeera network will feature stories and reports on December 28 and 29 about 365 days of legal struggle for the release of our colleagues from the Egyptian prison. On Thursday, January 1, the Egyptian Supreme Court is expected to consider and decide on the appeal against the verdict for the Al Jazeera journalists. This process will review the first-instance trial, which Al Jazeera has always claimed was conducted with many flaws, which is the basis of the appeal - the statement from Al Jazeera Balkans said.

Al Jazeera hopes the journalists will be acquitted, although it is also possible that the Court will order a retrial.

Appeals for the release of Al Jazeera's journalists have been made, as stated, by the White House, the British Foreign Office, the European Union, the Australian government, more than 150 human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, as well as global and national journalist associations and organizations dealing with freedom of speech and media rights.
