In an interview with the Patria News Agency, Member of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina Safet Kešo (SDA) talks about the delay in adopting the state budget, relations in the ruling coalition, the role of Milorad Dodik, and the passivity of political and academic structures in Sarajevo. Kešo believes that the current government does not function as a government, but as a "joint-stock company", while Dodik, despite all pressures, skillfully retains the levers of power.
Interview by Rasim Belko
When asked why the budget of Bosnia and Herzegovina has not been adopted by the beginning of the 11th month and what that says about the current government, Kešo says, among other things: "This clearly shows that the coalition is not functioning. The Council of Ministers resembles a joint-stock company more than a state government – everyone pulls in their own direction, there is no common policy".
"Forces from RS believe that any strengthening of the state represents treason. This is also evident in the opposition to increasing funds for the Armed Forces, although BiH only wants to be able to defend itself," he explains, adding that the SDA's position is clear: "we support the budget that includes the AF BiH, BHRT, and cultural institutions of importance to the state, because without them it loses its meaning".
When asked if what happened in RS, primarily in NSRS, marked the political end of Milorad Dodik, Kešo answers: "Unfortunately, it did not. He is building a system of obedient people and trying to retain power from the shadows. His removal now would cause serious tremors in RS".
We also analyzed with MP Kešo why there is no concrete and focused action from political and academic circles in Sarajevo, and he believes that the intellectual potential is suppressed.
"The University of Sarajevo could have been a catalyst for resistance and reason," he states..
Regarding whether Bosnia and Herzegovina can withstand the pressures of new crises, Kešo answers: It can – if we wake up on time. Otherwise, one morning we could wake up in circumstances that we can no longer fix".
