Party of European Socialists (PES): Denis Bećirović represents European values

BRUSSELS, (Patria) - The Party of European Socialists (PES), which brings together 34 parties from European Union countries and represents one of the largest political associations in Europe, has given full support to Denis Bećirović and the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDP BiH).

The European left has thus unequivocally decided when it comes to support in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

With this, Denis Bećirović became the only candidate in Bosnia and Herzegovina to receive international support from the European left, which has officially backed his candidacy in this way.

In the letter sent by PES President Sergei Stanishev, it states:

- We in the Party of European Socialists are following the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the processes within the SDP, with great interest. We are proud that a party that is part of our social democratic family is setting new democratic standards on the political scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On the principle of “one person – one vote,” Nermin Nikšić was elected president of the SDP. The opportunity for all SDP members to participate in the elections for the presidential candidate is an important new major democratic step forward that we welcome.

Denis Bećirović, who received enormous support in the referendum you organized, is truly an excellent candidate, open to all citizens of your country. We are aware that both Denis Bećirović and the SDP have great support, which is also visible in polls. We call on you to continue working hard on the ground with citizens to promote the presidential candidate's program, as well as the SDP's “Plan 10” program.

We are pleased that the SDP has become a gathering place and that you are receiving support from political parties, non-governmental organizations, individuals, and the Bosnian diaspora. Your people abroad should play a significant role in the coming period when it comes to the development of the country. We encourage you to continue working on bringing people together in Bosnia and Herzegovina on issues you agree on. Right-wingers will continue to emphasize differences and manipulate nationalism and fears. These are not European values.

European values are what you stand for – freedom, equality, solidarity, togetherness, multi-ethnicity…

Denis Bećirović is a candidate who represents European values and, as a candidate of a large multi-ethnic party, should continue to work in that direction in the Presidency of BiH.
