Parliamentarians to Discuss Ban on Convicted War Criminals Running in Elections and Genocide Denial

Several legal solutions will be considered at today's session of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including amendments to the Election Law and the Criminal Code, which relate to banning convicted war criminals from running in elections and prohibiting the denial of genocide and other crimes, based on a proposal by MP Denis Bećirović (SDP BiH), reports Patria agency.

The Committee on Constitutional Affairs supported the proposed amendments to the Election Law to ban convicted war criminals from running in elections and also supported the bill on prohibiting the denial, rejection, and marginalization of genocide.

It is also planned to consider amendments to the Criminal Code concerning criminal offenses against the integrity of BiH, specifically attacks on the constitutional order, endangering the territorial integrity of BiH, preventing the fight against the enemy of BiH, including service in foreign military formations.

A particularly interesting agenda item will be the HJPC Report for 2016, which is expected to be presented by HJPC President Milan Tegeltija. According to information, Tegeltija will not attend today's session due to health reasons. If Tegeltija is absent from today's session, the Report will not be considered.

Otherwise, the Report on the work of the HJPC in 2015, defended by Milan Tegeltija, was not acknowledged, but there were no consequences for him or this institution. The problems have doubled, so new criticisms of their work, as well as the Law on the HJPC, are expected.
