Paris: Europe's largest museum on fire

A large fire broke out in the Museum of Science and Industry in the center of Paris, Europe's largest museum dedicated to science, reports the Patria News Agency.

Firefighters have been trying to contain the fire for hours, and two people have been injured. Two firefighters were injured while extinguishing the fire, French media report. The fire broke out in a part of the museum that is being renovated, and the cause is still unknown.

The fire broke out this morning around 2:30 AM local time and quickly engulfed 10,000 square meters of the museum.

The City of Science and Industry is located in La Villette, Paris's third-largest park, and attracts approximately five million visitors annually.

AFP states that the City is more of a science center for the public than a traditional museum.

"Le Figaro" writes that the flames have engulfed six levels of the building, and according to some information, the fire has affected the museum's exhibition hall and cinema.

A representative of the fire department said that it will be difficult to localize the fire, the cause of which is currently unknown. There are 120 firefighters on the scene extinguishing the fire, and 30 fire trucks have been brought in to fight the blaze.
