Papers waved by Croats refute their claims: BiH did not approve the Pelješac Bridge!

Although the Minister of Transport and Communications Ismir Jusko (SBB) is silent, while Igor Pejić (HDZ), the secretary of the ministry, is leading the charge regarding the so-called Pelješac Bridge, it is becoming increasingly clear that Bosnia and Herzegovina has never given its consent for the construction of the Pelješac Bridge.

The construction of this bridge without the consent of the BiH side is illegal and constitutes a violation of binding international conventions. Especially the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, and Croatia is aware of this, and although it has the money for construction (approved by the European Commission), it is still asking BiH, or rather its "own" cadres from BiH institutions, to act in accordance with what suits Croatia, which is an absurdity and humiliation for all BiH citizens. It is unprecedented in the world for politicians of one country to work in favor of another. This is called treason against the state and one's own people!

The official position of the Presidency of BiH, the body that, according to the BiH Constitution, has exclusive jurisdiction over foreign policy, adopted at a session in 2007, is that BiH is against the construction of the bridge until open issues regarding the identification of the maritime border line between the two countries are resolved.

The papers waved by Croatian representatives in the BiH Parliament, which they claim state that there are no interstate agreements or other relevant regulations that would be called into question by the construction of the land-Pelješac bridge in Croatia, actually prove the opposite.

- Expert commissions of BiH and Croatia on December 7, 2006, fully agreed on all technical characteristics of the land-Pelješac bridge, in a way that Croatia fully met the demands of BiH - a navigable channel width of 200 meters and a clear height of the bridge of 55 meters - state Croatian representatives.

And that is indeed what is written, but in their address to the public, they clearly intentionally omitted the fact that it states that all agreed notes from December 7, 2006, are subject to verification by the Council of Ministers, and point 4 clearly states that a draft protocol will be prepared only after the verification of the agreed note from December 7 and the acceptance of the report of the ministry, i.e., the working group on negotiations, by the Council of Ministers.

Since the report was never adopted by the Council of Ministers with a proposal for conclusions, the appointed members from Croatia and BiH did not hold any meetings after December 7, 2006, and thus work on the implementation of point 4, the preparation of the draft protocol, was not continued.

Croatia is forcibly imposing the construction of the Pelješac Bridge, thereby physically and internationally obstructing, limiting, and preventing Bosnia and Herzegovina's only narrow maritime connection with international waters and with other countries of the world. In this way, it threatens the peace, sovereignty, stability, defense capability, and free development and survival of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a maritime state - it is stated in the document of BiH parliamentarians.

They also recall that Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, during his recent visit to Sarajevo, stated that "everything Croatia is doing regarding the construction of the Pelješac Bridge is in accordance with international law and in the spirit of good neighborly relations." They believe that with such statements, Plenković is "misleading both the Croatian public and all institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Commission.".

BiH parliamentarians intend to send a protest note to Croatia, and it is possible that other BiH politicians will also do so, demanding that official Zagreb "stop attacking the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a maritime state and cease all activities on the construction of the illegal and politically violent bridge project at the Komarna - Pelješac peninsula location.".
