Palmer and Eichhorst not coming, Election Law amendments on hold

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Special US envoy for election reform Matthew Palmer and European Union representative Angelina Eichhorst have postponed their arrival in Sarajevo, halting the process of talks between political representatives and foreign mediators on amendments to the Election Law and limited changes to the BiH Constitution.

During the previous round, which concluded on December 2nd, it was agreed that an attempt would be made to reach an agreement by mid-December. In the meantime, information emerged that the deadline for a final agreement was being moved to the end of January, which signaled that this scenario would occur.

The political situation further escalated after the session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, where conclusions were adopted on the preparation of legal solutions for the transfer of competencies from the state to the RS entity in the areas of judiciary, indirect taxation, defense, and security.

Also, some political parties have announced their withdrawal from the Election Law negotiation process, stating that the priority is the protection of the constitutional order, which foreign mediators, whose stronger and official reaction to the recent events has been absent, should understand.

Damir Arnaut from Our Party announced on Twitter that they were informed this morning that the negotiations have been suspended and that the arrival of Palmer and Eichhorst has been cancelled.
