House burnings in Mostar have no ethnic background

MOSTAR, (Patria) - Spokesperson of the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Ljudevit Marić, said that the cases of burning Serbian houses in the settlement of Salakovac, north of Mostar, according to the investigation results so far, have no ethnic background.

- The Mostar Police Department on Wednesday around 6 p.m. deprived one person of liberty, in the area of the City of Mostar, who is being linked to the day before yesterday's fire, and through further criminal investigation, several other fires that occurred in the past period in the area of Salakovac and Bijelo Polje are being charged against him - said Marić for Radio Gradska mreža and StarMo.

Rumors about an alleged inter-ethnic conflict as the reason for the house burnings, Marić called "insinuations" and added that the investigation shows "it is a conflict between a tenant" and the person who set the fire, who are "from the same people".

StarMo learns that the tenant and the arsonist are from the Bosniak people, while the owner of the property is of Serbian nationality.
