The Fall of Sarajevo Canton Will Lead the Entire Federation into Collapse!

Sarajevo Canton is in the biggest political and financial crisis since the Dayton Agreement, and its collapse is already threatening the stability of the entire country, according to research by the BiH news agency Patria (NAP) among numerous politicians and intellectuals in the capital. All of them, speaking on condition of anonymity, warn that the fall of Sarajevo could have unforeseeable consequences.

Once the engine of growth in the Federation of BiH, and in the entire country, Sarajevo had a budget larger than the entire Republika Srpska, and annually had over a billion marks at its disposal. Today, the KS government, led by the cantonal SDA headed by KO Sarajevo president Denis Zvizdić, is in disarray.

Acting Prime Minister Muhamed Kozadra must seek an expensive bank loan of 130 million marks to patch up the budget, which is more than 300 million marks smaller than the budget from three or four years ago.

More than 10,000 budget beneficiaries fear for their income every month, the extent of the deficit is only now being revealed, and corruption scandals are piling up in the prosecutor's offices.

This, as NAP agency research has shown, is the reason why no political party from Sarajevo Canton wants to take responsibility and the mandate position, and it is not excluded that the situation in the BiH capital will be brought to a boiling point before the elections!

According to the opinion of well-informed research participants, the collapse of Sarajevo as the capital, the place where the most taxes are paid, where there are the most companies, trade, and tourists, would lead the entire FBiH, and then the country, into a financial and political abyss.

The fall of Sarajevo Canton, according to the analysis of financial and political trends, began during the term of office of this Cantonal government.

The key event, after which the steep decline of Sarajevo Canton began, was the turmoil within the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), which has largely politically controlled Sarajevo in recent years.

Although it achieved a good election result, and after the elections made a quality agreement with the SDP on power sharing, Abdulharis Šeta was suddenly dismissed from the position of head of the Cantonal SDA, and Zvizdić was appointed in his place.

Shortly thereafter, the Canton was politically and financially destabilized. Coalitions began to change and disintegrate, and key decisions were made by marginal individuals and parties, such as Esed Radeljaš from BOSS or representatives of other parties with a minimal number of votes. Among other things, this has caused justified revolt and dissatisfaction with the cantonal authorities.

Zvizdić, as the head of the strongest party within the SDA, by all accounts, also bears the greatest responsibility for the current situation – the financial deficit, political paralysis, and daily blockades of the capital city!  

By fleeing the prime minister position, Patria agency's informed sources claim, Zvizdić is only showing his party leadership that his appointment as head of KO SDA was a cardinal mistake. Therefore, the research shows, the SDA leadership is increasingly considering introducing a trusteeship, dismissing Zvizdić, and bringing back Šeta, in the interest of saving KS from collapse and stopping the spiral decline of the entire Federation. The fact that the dismissal of Prime Minister Suad Zeljković was carried out without the knowledge of the party leadership also supports this.
