This is how the 'Supermoon' looked above Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The natural satellite of planet Earth, the Moon was closest to our planet on Sunday, February 9, making it appear 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter.

This phenomenon is called the "Supermoon" and tonight it occurs for the first time this decade. 

A full Moon appears in the sky when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, meaning its surface is fully illuminated.

At the same time, the Moon will also be very close to our planet, meaning it will appear both larger and brighter in the night sky.

"The Moon will be full until Monday morning, so it will be a full Moon weekend," said NASA officials ahead of this event.

Native American tribes celebrated this phenomenon, and ancient peoples used the lunar cycle to measure seasonal changes.
