Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipal Council adopts report on Hadžibajrić's recall, verification by CIK and decision on new elections to follow

(Patria) - At an emergency session of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipal Council held today, the Report of the Commission for Conducting the Recall Procedure of the Mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, was adopted, concerning the conducted procedure and the results of the citizens' expression of opinion on the recall of the mayor.

The Chairman of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipal Council, Seid Škaljić, stated that the Report represents the result of a thorough analysis conducted by the Commission for the Implementation of the Recall. He particularly emphasized that the Report covered all phases of the procedure, from the appointment of the Commission to the final results of the referendum.

“The Municipal Council confirmed the decision to adopt the Report, and the complete documentation, including ballot papers and all materials, will be sent to the Central Election Commission for detailed analysis. It is expected that the Central Election Commission, based on the analysis, will make a final decision on the revocation of the mandate of Mayor Hadžibajrić,” explained Chairman Škaljić.

Additionally, he added that early elections are expected to be called in the first half of October, depending on the speed of the Central Election Commission's response.

The Chairman of the Commission for Conducting the Recall Procedure of the Mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Mirza Imamović, provided more details on the further course of events.

“After the adoption of the Commission's Report at the session, it will be forwarded to the Central Election Commission for confirmation of the conducted referendum and the recall procedure of the mayor. All documentation at the Commission's disposal, including sensitive and non-sensitive material, reports, and minutes, will be submitted to the Central Election Commission in the coming days,” emphasized Imamović.

The main goal of this step is to enable a detailed analysis and verification of the legality of the conducted procedure. It is expected that the Central Election Commission, based on the analysis of the submitted materials, will make a decision on calling early elections within the next 15 days.

According to data from the Commission for Conducting the Recall of the Municipal Mayor, 4,864 citizens out of a total of 36,193 registered participated in the referendum. There were a total of 4,841 valid ballots, while 53 ballots were invalid. A total of 3,791 voters voted for the recall of Municipal Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, while 1,050 voters voted against the recall. In percentage terms, 13.52% of voters from Stari Grad supported the recall of Municipal Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić.
