Jewelry store opened: Are Maglaj residents selling jewelry to survive the month?

We asked business entities not to deregister their businesses, the bakery is open, several shops and jewelry stores, said Mehmed Mustabašić, Mayor of Maglaj Municipality, for the BiH news agency Patria.

The question arises whether the opening of a jewelry store indicates the difficult financial situation of many Maglaj residents who may have to sell their jewelry to renovate their homes or simply survive the month until some official solution is found for this problem affecting nearly 25,000 Maglaj residents living in this municipality.  

- We will exempt them from what is within our power and the scope of municipal jurisdiction. So they are trying to return to their businesses little by little, but people are already losing patience and are nervous – Mustabašić told NAP.

He emphasized that intensive work is being done in Maglaj to clean up the city, but mechanization is still needed.

- We don't have a solution for what to do next. What about the people, what can we promise them? Will it be financial aid, construction material? The main reason is that we have no guidelines, neither from the canton nor from the Federation of BiH, on what to do next – says Mustabašić.

Regarding the waste being disposed of, Mustabašić points out that there is a promise from the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism that part of the waste should be moved to the Mošćanica landfill.

- We hope it will be soon. We also have a problem because people are now at a stage where they don't know what to do. Nearly 2,000 houses need to be renovated. Schools, the Health Center, public institutions, and businesses need to be renovated. And no one is providing guidelines on whether the government will take over, or if a donor conference will solve it – says Mustabašić.
