Mosque and Islamic Center Opened in Koševsko Brdo

On Koševsko Brdo on November 20, 2014, a mosque and Islamic Center were ceremonially opened. The opening of the facility was attended by the Mayor of Centar Municipality, Dževad Bećirević, and the Chairman of the Municipal Council, Nedžad Ajnadžić, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Mayor Bećirević said at the opening of the mosque and Islamic Center that he had dreamed of completing this project for ten years.

- We have finally reached today to have such an event and for the community of Koševsko Brdo to have a community they deserve - emphasized Bećirević.

The construction of the facility, which has more than 1,700 square meters of usable area, cost around 3.5 million marks. The Centar Municipality supported the realization of this project from the very beginning. According to Zijad Begović, president of the construction board, the Centar Municipality supported the project with around 800,000 marks.

- We have been trying to build a mosque for ten years, and finally our dream has come true. The estimated value of the facility was around 3.6 million marks, and so far we have completed construction works worth 3.5 million KM. One building intended for a kindergarten is still left. I hope we will manage to build another multifunctional sports facility. One third of the facility is intended exclusively for believers, and the rest is planned for social activities. Koševsko Brdo generally lacks a facility for social activities. The doors will be open to everyone. We plan to organize book promotions, sports, and other activities for young people - said Begović. 

The largest donor of the project is Saudi Arabia, which contributed 2.5 million marks.
