The 55th International Theatre Festival MESS opened on Friday evening in the Juan Antonio Samaranch Hall (Zetra) and will run until October 11, reports the BH News Agency Patria.
During the Festival, visitors will be able to see 22 performances from 13 countries, and nearly 400 actors and performers will take the stage.
The opening of the Festival was dedicated to the destruction of the ancient temple in Palmyra, as well as to the murdered Syrian archaeologist Khaled El Assad, who was tortured and killed by members of the Islamic State after he managed to evacuate a part of the cultural and historical treasures of the Palmyra museum. The vocal ensemble of the Music Academy performed an original composition.
MESS 2015 was opened by a person who preserved a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina's cultural and historical heritage in the most difficult times, one of the eight keyholders of the national treasure of former Yugoslavia, Amra Rešidbegović. In her speech, she said that Sarajevo's Palmyra was Sarajevo's City Hall.
The play "Forbidden Zone", produced by Berlin's Schaubühne theatre, was performed.
