Where do politicians get the right to "mobilize people for war" every two years?

Politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina have brought the atmosphere to a boiling point in the campaign for the October 2 local elections, and social networks are flooded with questions about whether there will be war in BiH, writes the Patria news agency.

And it has been like this for years. Individuals irresponsibly raise passions with their rhetoric, which subsides after the elections. Regardless of the fact that it is "pre-election rhetoric," it is enough to stir up past ghosts in the public. The question is, where do politicians get the right to "mobilize people for war" every two years?

Almir Terzić, a political analyst, very precisely states in an interview with the Patria news agency that "inflammatory rhetoric is the most profitable activity of politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina in an election year.".

- Such a tried-and-tested recipe for homogenizing their voter base has succeeded in deceiving voters so far. And then, logically, what has proven to be good - should not be changed. It is the same this year. Referendums, threats, raising tensions, creating artificial crises are current again... There are two culprits for such a situation: First, the voters who fall for such stories because instead of punishing those who drive them to the brink of madness in the elections, they often give them their trust, thinking that they are actually good protectors of their "national interests." And that they have been deceived, voters actually realize only after the polling stations close, because then even the greatest enemies become good collaborators, but not in realizing plans in the interest of the peoples who elected them, but with only one goal - dividing the spoils - says Terzić.

He further warns that "as long as we think divided into three, and do not act as one, things will not get better.".

- The second culprit is the media, which allow themselves to be active participants in political deceptions. Instead of the media dictating the actions of politicians, it has long been the opposite in BiH. Politicians consciously and deliberately manage the media space with topics and stories that suit them at that moment. And that is a closed circle. The media must do more in the interest of citizens, not politicians. If, for example, they start talking about the impossibility of an agreement, for instance, about Mostar, the media should only provide a brief flash news item - Mostar still on hold, and then show the garbage in the streets, stray dogs with features and texts - added Terzić.

In fact, they should be constantly reminded of the consequences of their inaction, emphasizes this analyst, and points out that "the problem is that the peoples and citizens in BiH have opted for withdrawal instead of fighting in their country.".

- They have decided to flee to Germany, Sweden, Austria... As long as the peoples and citizens do not unite in the fight for the salvation of BiH and prevent those who are destroying it from ruling it, no one will see better days. No matter how absurd it may sound, at a time when all countries in the region are talking about the EU and NATO, BiH will continue to talk about war, secession, majorization, referendums... Everyone who does this should be clearly shown that this story will not pass and that it no longer passes. But I doubt that will happen so quickly - adds Terzić.
