It is true that SDA Vice President Bakir Izetbegović and Democratic Front leader Željko Komšić met yesterday in Sarajevo where they discussed the formation of the executive government in the Federation of BiH, specifically the number of ministries that will go to the SDA, HDZ BiH and DF, in order to have fewer problems in today's negotiations, reports the Patria news agency.
However, as Patria learns, Izetbegović and Komšić did agree on the number of ministries, but not on which portfolios will go to which party.
Komšić agreed that the DF should get four ministries, but due to Dragan Čović's persistent insistence that he get six, which includes five Croatian and one Serbian, the DF leader said that six is possible, but that it should not be a Serbian one but from the category of others.
Also, he told Izetbegović that the DF can provide two Bosniak and two Serbian ministers, and that it demands the ministries of energy, mining and industry, tourism and environment, and for refugees and displaced persons, while the fourth would be discussed today. It was also offered that a fifth ministry, that of agriculture, be "joint", meaning that the SDA and DF would nominate a candidate who would be relevant for that position and serve as minister for both parties.
However, yesterday, aside from the number of ministries that the DF agreed to, Izetbegović was not ready to concede the requested portfolios.
This was precisely the reason why Komšić left tonight's meeting, because the discussion on the distribution of portfolios went against what he had discussed yesterday with Izetbegović; more precisely, the SDA Vice President yielded to Čović's demands.
