The number of police officers on the streets of Sarajevo Canton is rising, but so is the number of criminal offences, statistics show, reports the Patria agency. The Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton hired 148 young police officers in 2014, and at the end of last year another 123 police officers.
Police Commissioner Vahid Ćosić stated that this means that the citizens of Sarajevo Canton will be safer.
Unfortunately, reports from the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office show a completely different situation. The number of criminal offences in the area of Sarajevo Canton, only those with an unknown perpetrator, has been on the rise since 2011. In 2014, more than 10,200 such criminal offences were recorded in Sarajevo Canton, which is about 1,000 more than the year before. In the first six months of 2015, a large number of criminal offences with an unknown perpetrator was also recorded, close to 5,000.
The Ministry of Interior of Sarajevo Canton has about 1,500 police officers, writes Patria.
