Classes cancelled at Catholic School Centre due to air pollution

(Patria) - The Administration of the Catholic School Centre St. Josip cancelled classes due to, as they stated, excessive air pollution in Sarajevo Canton.

"Due to excessive air pollution in Sarajevo Canton, and after consultations with the Founder and the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, we inform you that classes at the Catholic School Centre 'St. Josip' Sarajevo are postponed until Tuesday, January 14, 2020," stated the KSC St. Josip.

Furthermore, they emphasise that additional notices regarding the start of classes in the second semester will be published during the following day.

Concentrations of PM10 dust particles in the air remain extremely high today, which is why the "Alert" episode remains in effect in all zones of Sarajevo Canton.

The average measured PM10 values today at the automatic station Ilijaš were 644 µg/m3, at Ilidža – 492 µg/m3, at Otoka 447 µg/m3, and at Vijećnica 347 µg/m3.

It is urged that movement in "alert zones" be reduced to a minimum, especially in the evening hours when a renewed rise in PM10 concentrations is expected.

Also, according to data from official measuring stations, Sarajevo yesterday and the day before took the unenviable first place among the most polluted cities in the world, and residents of the Bosnian capital were warned of the very harmful health consequences of the extremely dangerous level of air pollution, and the "Alert" episode was declared.
