Convicted of war crimes in Mostar: Dražen Lovrić paid off prison sentence with 36,500 KM

(Patria) - Dražen Lovrić, finally convicted to one year in prison for crimes against the civilian population committed in 1993 in the Mostar area, replaced his prison sentence with a monetary fine of 36,500 KM, Detektor has confirmed from the State Court.

After the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina confirmed the first-instance verdict by which Lovrić, a former member of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO), was sentenced to one year in prison, the Court issued a decision replacing the prison sentence with a monetary fine.

Lovrić was convicted for participating in the unlawful arrest of several civilians from Omladinska Street in Mostar in September 1993, who were taken and imprisoned in the “Vojno” camp.

Also convicted along with Lovrić were former HVO members Nedžad Tinjak, to 12 years, and Jure Kordić, to three years in prison, while Dario Sušac, Nuhan Šikalo, Dario Mihalj, Stanko Škobić, Tomislav Ančić, and Slavko Golemac were acquitted.

Tinjak was found guilty on several counts for participating in the unlawful arrest of Bosniak civilians in Mostar in 1993, who were taken and imprisoned in the “Vojno” camp, as well as for inhumane treatment of them, and the rape of two women, according to the first-instance verdict.

Kordić was found guilty on two counts – for participating in unlawful arrest and inhumane treatment in “Vojno”, while his participation in a murder was not proven.

Tinjak was acquitted of some charges, and Sušac, Šikalo, Mihalj, Škobić, Ančić, and Golemac were acquitted of all charges related to unlawful detention, torture, inhumane treatment, and rape of civilians held in inhumane conditions in the “Vojno” camp from 1993 to 1994.

The trial in this case began in May 2018, and in the meantime, two defendants – Nedžad Ćorić and Marinko Šunjić – passed away.
