Condemnation of Vandalism: Nazi Symbol Drawn on Obituary of Sarajevo Legend Čičak

(Patria) - The Sarajevo SDP strongly condemns the vandalistic and anti-civilizational act of drawing a Nazi swastika on the death notice of the recently deceased prominent anti-fascist and deserving SDP member Želimir Altarac Čičak.

Sarajevo is a community that must have zero tolerance for anti-Semitism and similar phenomena and must react most strongly to any attempt to drag Sarajevo back into the jaws of fascism. Čičak, and Sarajevo in general, least deserve such treatment, even if it comes from any irresponsible individual.

We call on investigative and prosecutorial authorities to identify the perpetrators and possible instigators of this heinous crime as soon as possible and to adequately sanction such an act, the SDP stated.

Earlier, Naša stranka also condemned this act.

"The swastika on the death notice of Želimir Altarac Čičak is a threat to the Jewish community and to all of us. Those of us who want Sarajevo to be a city for all its citizens must see that swastika as if it were drawn on our own doors, a direct threat and danger. Right now, only in this way can we restore a sense of security to our Jewish fellow citizens," they said from Naša stranka.
