Osmanović in Trnovo: Heroes who gave their lives for our freedom are not forgotten

(Patria) - By laying flowers and paying tribute at the Martyrs' Memorial near the Trnovo Municipality building, the 32nd anniversary of the mobilization of police in the defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Police Day of the Trnovo Public Security Station was marked today.

The role of the active and reserve police force of the Trnovo Public Security Station and the Sarajevo Public Security Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was crucial for the defense of the besieged Trnovo municipality and the city of Sarajevo, which was under siege at the time.

By evoking memories of the fallen martyrs, as well as the fallen and deceased police officers, those present had the opportunity to recall the difficult moments from the defense and liberation period, when they defended the ramparts of the city of Sarajevo shoulder to shoulder.

The Minister for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, also attended today's commemoration in Trnovo, highlighting the importance of this unit's role in Trnovo and beyond.

- It is very important to mention the contribution of the active and reserve members of the Trnovo Public Security Station in the defense against the aggressor, and to give them the recognition they deserve. Twenty-six brave young men gave their lives then, in combat missions, for our freedom today.

In their honor, but also for all of you, we are here today to show together that they are not forgotten, and that we remember them with great respect. Our martyrs are also our heroes, who could have stood here in front of you today if they had not left us too soon. May the earth be light upon them, eternal mercy and glory - Osmanović said.

Special tribute was paid to the police officers who gave their lives in defense: Mirsad Dedić, Dragoljub Knežević, Ibri Bjelica, Edib Ploča, Zahid Bunar, Sakib Ćosić, Senad Drinjaković, Abid Hamzić, Zulfi Krupalija, Dino Sačić, Fikret Leko, Suada Zagorac, Edib Zagorac, Hajra Malkić, Uzeir Šehović, Rizu Hodžić, Nermin Terzo, Kasim Spahić, Munib Velić, Ismet Mehanić, Sadi Zulić, Kemo Mehanić, Ibri Leko, Zajko Mizdrak, Alija Mehanija, and Hamzo Mulaosmanović.
