Osmanović and Avdić at Memorial Tournament: The Bašović Brothers Built Their Lives into the Foundations of Our State

(Patria) - The traditional 19th memorial kickboxing tournament “Braća Bašović”, organized in memory of the pioneers of this combat sport in BiH, Behudin and Bido Bašović, was held today at the ‘‘Safet Zajko’’ Center for Sports and Recreation.

This sporting event was also attended by the Minister for Veterans' Affairs Omer Osmanović, and the Minister of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton Samir Avdić.

In his address, Minister Osmanović emphasized the need to constantly evoke memories of the two brothers from the Bašović family, who made a great contribution to the defense of our homeland.

‘‘When we mention the Bašović brothers, the first association is certainly this combat sport, for which they were also known. This memorial tournament represents the legacy that brothers Behudin and Bido left behind, and it is our duty to nurture and cherish the culture of remembrance, so that we do not allow these great patriots to be forgotten,’’ stated Minister Osmanović.

With the selfless support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, this tournament, featuring six fights, brought together some of the best fighters in our country.

As Minister Avdić noted, support will not be lacking in the future.

‘‘We supported the holding of the tournament again this year, wishing to remember these top athletes, who built their lives into the foundations of our state, as well as sports history,’’ said Minister Avdić.

Incidentally, this tournament was first held at Sarajevo's FIS in the war year of 1993.
