Gravestones desecrated in Kantarevac cemetery: One headstone broken, another uprooted from the ground

(Patria) - The Medžlis of the Islamic Community (MIZ) Mostar strongly condemned the act of vandalism involving the desecration of gravestones in the Kantarevac cemetery.

- According to the information available to us, this shameful incident occurred on the night of February 13 to 14, during which one headstone was broken and another completely uprooted from the ground and thrown to the ground.

We expect the competent police authorities and services, to whom we have reported the case with documentation, to find the perpetrators as soon as possible and disclose the motives that guided them during the commission of this criminal act - said the chief imam of MIZ Mostar, Dino-ef. Maksumić.

MIZ Mostar strongly condemns such deviant and extremely uncivilized attacks by individuals or groups on the dignity of the deceased, killed, and fallen fellow citizens buried in this cemetery, as well as on fundamental civilizational values, the statement adds.
