Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro arrived in Sarajevo

Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro arrived in Sarajevo today, where he will be presented with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo for his outstanding contribution to the art of filmmaking as part of the Open Air program tonight at the 21st Sarajevo Film Festival. Benicio Del Toro will be on the red carpet at 7:30 PM, the SFF announced, reports the BH news agency Patria.

Del Toro will present the drama "A Perfect Day" by Fernando León de Aranoa, in which he played the lead role, to the Sarajevo audience. The film premiered in the Directors' Fortnight program at the recently concluded 68th Cannes Film Festival.

The famous actor will also give a lecture for participants of the Talents Sarajevo program, a festival platform for connecting and training new film talents from Southeast Europe and the South Caucasus. Since its establishment in 2007, Talents Sarajevo has become a regional center for education and mutual acquaintance of promising filmmakers.

Throughout his career, Del Toro has won numerous awards, including an Oscar from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Steven Soderbergh's film "Traffic," as well as an Oscar nomination for his role in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's film "21 Grams." For his role in the biographical film about Che Guevara, "Che," on which he reunited with Soderbergh, Del Toro won the award for Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008, and a year later he received the Goya Award in Madrid, Spain, for the same role.

Del Toro has enjoyed critical acclaim since his first film appearance as Dario in John Glen's "Licence to Kill," alongside Timothy Dalton as James Bond. In addition to the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in "Traffic," Del Toro has won a number of other significant awards, including a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA Award, a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, and awards from the New York Film Critics Circle, the National Society of Film Critics, and the Chicago Film Critics Association.

Throughout his career, Del Toro has collaborated with numerous acclaimed directors, to the equal delight of audiences and critics, including Paul Thomas Anderson, Oliver Stone, Robert Rodriguez, Peter Weir, George Huang, Abel Ferrara, Guy Ritchie, Sean Penn, Susanne Bier, and Terry Gilliam.
