Funds secured for the renovation of St. Mark's Chapel in Sarajevo

(Patria) - Today, the St. Mark's Chapel in the eponymous cemetery in Koševsko Brdo was returned by KJKP Pokop to the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality of Sarajevo.

The handover of keys was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Jelena Pekić, the Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection Bojan Bošnjak, the Director of Pokop Samir Kurtanović, and the Dean of the Old Orthodox Church, Protopresbyter Velimir Divljanović.

On this occasion, mutual cooperation and support of the Sarajevo Canton Government to religious communities in preserving religious buildings of cultural-historical value were emphasized.
The Sarajevo Canton Government has secured financial resources in the amount of 70,000 KM for the renovation of this chapel.

As highlighted, the great wealth of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo should be diversity and mutual understanding, appreciation and respect, and the commitment of this Sarajevo Canton Government is to nurture and promote that wealth as strongly as possible.

“I would praise the efforts of the management of KJKP Pokop to more strongly influence the equal treatment of all our fellow citizens with quality projects. The current Sarajevo Canton Government will strive to support this,” stated Minister Bošnjak on this occasion.

The initiative for the return of the chapel, as well as its renovation, was submitted last year by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Jelena Pekić.

“In addition to those that are in the procedure, there are more initiatives in preparation that, on a realistic basis, guarantee the effectiveness of the work of the parliamentary majority and the current convocation of the Sarajevo Canton Government,” added Deputy Speaker Pekić.
