OSCE: More than five thousand suspects for war crimes in BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) presented a thematic report in Sarajevo on the implementation of the State Strategy for War Crimes Cases.

The report “Observations on the State Strategy for War Crimes Cases and the Draft Revised Strategy from 2018, including Category A Cases of the Road Map” contains an overview of the progress made by the judiciary in BiH since the adoption of the State Strategy for War Crimes Cases in 2008 and identifies challenges and obstacles in its implementation, which the Revised Strategy seeks to address.

The OSCE Mission to BiH called on the Council of Ministers of BiH to adopt the Revised State Strategy for War Crimes Cases without further delay.

- Although achieving justice and ending impunity for these terrible crimes will continue to require great effort from the entire judicial sector, it will equally require political will and support. That support should be shown by ordinary citizens, as well as by the highest levels of government - stated the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Bruce G. Berton.

The Revised State Strategy for War Crimes Cases contains measures to overcome the remaining challenges that hinder the effective prosecution of these cases.

The progress made since the adoption of the Strategy in 2008 will be the basis for further progress, which will contribute to achieving justice for the victims of war crimes and provide support to the country on its path to reconciliation and lasting peace.

According to the data available to the OSCE Mission, there are at least 5,300 suspects for war crimes in BiH.
