OSCE on human trafficking in Brčko: Urgently launch investigation and prosecute those responsible

(Patria) - We are deeply disturbed by the news of human trafficking in Brčko District of BiH, the OSCE Mission to BiH announced today.

"Human trafficking is a very serious and complex criminal offense, often referred to as a modern form of slavery. This criminal offense is characterized by severe violations of fundamental human rights.

It causes lasting physical and psychological consequences for the victims, and violates their dignity and well-being long after the exploitation ends.

Brčko District Police are still determining the identities of the found children, in contact with institutions from Croatia and Serbia

The OSCE Mission to BiH calls on the competent authorities to urgently launch a thorough investigation and prosecute those responsible.

At the same time, it is necessary to provide comprehensive protection and support to the victims, taking into account the fact that they are minors.

A strong response from the competent institutions is a prerequisite for the prevention of criminal offenses of this kind, but also for the protection of the most vulnerable members of society and the preservation of the rule of law," the OSCE Mission to BiH stated.
