OSCE, EU Delegation and US Embassy Support the Law on Asset Declaration of Public Officials

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Delegation of the European Union and the EU Special Representative in BiH, and the Embassy of the United States of America in BiH welcome the adoption of the Law on Reporting and Verification Procedure of Asset Data of Public Officials in Sarajevo Canton.

"The asset status of public officials represents a legitimate public interest. Therefore, the adoption of the law on asset declaration is of key importance for this country's fight against corruption. Measures leading to improved transparency and accountability are necessary throughout the country with the aim of strengthening public trust in administrative, legislative and executive authorities. Concrete and measurable results in the fight against corruption are needed for the benefit of all citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We commend the Government of Sarajevo Canton for demonstrating political leadership in tackling the difficult challenge of corruption, and especially for emphasizing the issues of prevention and deterrence. We call on all levels of government in BiH to do the same. Our organizations express commitment to providing support for the implementation of this Law and the work of the Office for the Fight against Corruption and Quality Management of Sarajevo Canton.
