Indictment for illegal trafficking of a ton of tobacco

(Patria) - The Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH has filed an indictment against Jerko Tomić, born in 1984 in Mostar, a citizen of BiH and the Republic of Croatia, and
Darko Popović, born in 1968 in Banja Luka, a citizen of BiH.

According to the indictment, the accused are charged with transporting approximately 1 ton (1059.5 kg) of raw tobacco and tobacco products for the purpose of illegal financial gain, without appropriate excise and financial documentation.
The accused were discovered transporting tobacco during a check by members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska.

The seized tobacco, without excise stamps and proof of origin, was being transported by the accused for further sale, and the mentioned tobacco, within the meaning of the Law on Excise Duties in BiH, is considered a tobacco product and must be marked with excise stamps in the manner prescribed by the tax legislation of BiH before being placed on the market.
      
The accused are charged with committing the criminal offense of illegal trafficking of excise products from Article 210a, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of BiH, in conjunction with Articles 29 and 26 of the same Law.
   
The indictment has been forwarded to the Court of BiH for confirmation.
