Seven members of HVO Military Police and police indicted for war crimes against civilians of Bosniak nationality

(Patria) - The Prosecutor's Office of BiH has indicted Babić Luka, born in 1965 in Teslić, Vrbić Alojz, known as "Vrba", born in 1957 in Zavidovići, Martić Marinko, known as "Žilo", born in 1960 in Žepče, Jozić Franja, born in 1964 in Žepče, Markanović Viktor, known as "Karika", born in 1960 in Žepče, Spajić Slavko, known as "Spaja", born in 1959 in Zavidovići, and Mrkonjić Ivo, known as "Cvaka", born in 1962 in Žepče.

The accused are charged with acting contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War during 1993 and 1994, in their capacity as members of the HVO Military Police and civilian police in Žepče.

In a total of 66 counts of the indictment, they are charged with war crimes against dozens of civilians of Bosniak nationality who were unlawfully detained in improvised prison facilities, including torture, abuse, beatings, and other inhumane treatment, some of which resulted in deaths, as well as unlawful assignment to forced labor in the zone of combat operations, during which several persons were killed and a larger number were wounded, after which they did not receive adequate medical assistance, as well as rape.

The accused are charged with the criminal offense of War Crimes against the Civilian Population under Article 173 of the Criminal Code of BiH.
