Semir Škaljo Indicted for Threatening Swedish Embassy Staff

(Patria) - A prosecutor from the BiH Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against Semir Škaljo, born in 1989 in Zenica, a repeatedly convicted BiH citizen.

The accused is charged with sending threatening messages via social media to the official profile of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Bosnia and Herzegovina, threatening the security of embassy diplomatic staff, who are under international protection in accordance with Article 1 of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Internationally Protected Persons, including Diplomatic Agents.

The indictment states that the accused, dissatisfied with being deported from the Kingdom of Sweden in 2017, sent threats to the life and security of embassy staff, and even physically went to the address of the diplomatic mission, where he demanded to speak with the then ambassador, but was prevented from doing so by security personnel. When he came to the embassy premises a second time, after the reaction of security officers and notification of a DKPT BiH police officer, SIPA police officers arrived at the location and apprehended the accused.

The accused is charged with endangering the security of internationally protected persons by making serious threats to attack diplomatic personnel and official premises, thereby committing the criminal offense of Endangering Persons under International Protection under Article 192 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The prosecution will prove the allegations of the indictment by calling 9 witnesses and submitting approximately 20 pieces of evidence.

The indictment has been forwarded to the BiH Court for confirmation.
