Opposition seeks dismissal of RS Interior Minister Dragan Lukač

The opposition in the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska today demanded the dismissal of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska, Dragan Lukač, reports the Patria News Agency. 

They hold him responsible for accepting the amendments of the Bosniak Caucus in the Council of Peoples of the Republika Srpska, which concern national representation of employees in the RS police force based on the 1991 census.

The amendments were adopted along with the Law on Police and Internal Affairs in the RS, which tomorrow, in a repeated vote, will not receive support from either the ruling majority or the opposition.

However, the RS opposition believes that someone must be held accountable for everything that happened with this law, the decree for which was not signed by the President of the RS, who instead sent it for a repeated vote in the National Assembly.

The head of the SDS parliamentary group, Vukota Govedarica, reminded reporters that Lukač had claimed the amendments were good, while accusing the opposition, which pointed out their harmfulness, of playing politics.

Govedarica called the ruling majority's refusal to discuss the law again in parliament before voting on it a "big scandal".

On the other hand, the head of the SNSD parliamentary group in the National Assembly, Radovan Višković, confirmed that his party will also not support the said law, but that they will propose a new legal solution on police and internal affairs within a shortened timeframe.

However, Višković did not confirm whether someone would be held accountable for the fact that the parliamentary majority initially adopted the Law on Police and Internal Affairs in the RS, and then supported the Bosniak amendments, only for Dodik to refuse to sign the decree for the law's promulgation after warnings from the opposition.

Deputies will vote on the Law on Police and Internal Affairs tomorrow, BHT reports.
