Municipal Court Issues Security Measure: Professor Gavrankapetanović Must Immediately Return to the Faculty of Medicine

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Municipal Court in Sarajevo last week issued a court security measure by which Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović should be immediately reinstated to his position and assigned to the duties he performed before the termination of his employment contract, in the field of Orthopedics, at the Surgery Department of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sarajevo.

Attorney Maida Galijatović told the Patria agency that the Court is obliged to ensure the implementation of this verdict.

- The security measure remains in force until the final resolution of the proceedings in the case. We requested this measure to prevent harmful consequences that could hinder the realization of the lawsuit's claim, i.e., his rights once they are legally decided by the lawsuit - says Galijatović.

She explains that the court security measure should prevent changes at the Faculty, such as hiring someone else in Prof. Gavrankapetanović's position.

She reminded that the UNSA Steering Board, the Educational Inspectorate, and the Ombudsmen have all determined that Professor Gavrankapetanović's rights have been violated.

Since September 2018, the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo has refused to implement the decision of the UNSA Steering Board and reinstate Professor Gavrankapetanović to the teaching process.

His employment contract was terminated after he left the KCUS and moved to the JU General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš".
