Municipality of Stari Grad twinned with Municipality of Mehmetçik from Northern Cyprus

Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo Ibrahim Hadžibajrić and Mayor of the Municipality of Mehmetçik Cemil Sarıçizmeli signed the Agreement on Twinning and Establishment of Special Relations yesterday, 07.08.2016. The signing was also attended by the President of the Municipal Council of Stari Grad Vedran Dodik, and municipal councilor Irfan Čengić, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Both mayors expressed great satisfaction with the establishment of twinning relations, as well as hope that this agreement will lead to the realization of new relations between the citizens of these municipalities, and cultural and economic entities. The day before the signing, mayors Hadžibajrić and Sarıçizmeli, as well as the President of Northern Cyprus Mustafa Akıncı, opened the 56th Grape Festival in Mehmetçik, one of the most famous and oldest festivals in Northern Cyprus.

The Municipality of Mehmetçik is one of the most developed municipalities on the island, known as a destination for high-end tourism and grape cultivation. In the coming period, the construction of several luxury hotels is planned in this municipality.

This is the twentieth municipality with which the Municipality of Stari Grad has twinning relations.
