Stari Grad Municipality supports high school students raising money for excursion

Stari Grad Municipality will join the action “Excursion 2017” of the students of the Secondary Medical School on Bjelave and help them raise funds so that the entire generation can travel on an excursion. The high school students who want to earn money, so that their friends who are in a weaker financial situation can also go on the excursion, will work in the Ambassadors' Alley next month. The students, together with employees of the municipal Department for Technical Affairs, will clean the Ambassadors' Alley of waste, leaves and weeds over the weekend, and will be paid for their work, announced the Stari Grad Municipality, reports the Patria agency.

The Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, received today the school principal Sadina Kešo and student Dženan Hodžić, who initiated the action, and offered the high school students a job.

- We decided to join this action because it is very commendable that you want to earn money through your work and effort. Unfortunately, many do not think that way today. We will support your idea and pay you for your work, and you will thus send a message to your school friends that everything in life can be achieved through work and effort - said Mayor Hadžibajrić.

The action “Excursion 2017” was initiated by Dženan Hodžić, a third-grade student of the Secondary Medical School, who posted the idea on his Facebook profile last week. He says that in his school, there has been no excursion for five years due to the poor financial situation.

- Our school is also attended by students from other cities: Bužim, Bugojno, Visoko... It is difficult enough for them to bear the costs of accommodation and living in Sarajevo, and it is hard for them to pay for the excursion. In my class, there are nine students who cannot finance the excursion themselves, and we are all united in helping them - says Dženan.

He adds that the generation numbers 178 students and that they still do not know the exact number of those who will need help for the excursion.

- We are united in accepting the most affordable arrangement, just so we can all travel together. We would like it to be the Vienna-Prague-Budapest tour - says Dženan and adds that last weekend they were already engaged in distributing leaflets and promotional packages, earning a symbolic amount of money. About the idea of working in the Ambassadors' Alley, Dženan says:

- This is an excellent idea and I know that all my school friends will accept it. I will be the first to put on work clothes and we will all clean the promenade, because we proposed to do all the jobs we can do, including maintaining parks. I am happy that I will return to class today with good news and many thanks to Stari Grad Municipality.

Principal Kešo said that, according to the school's valid Rulebook, 60% of students need to apply for the excursion, and in previous years that number was significantly lower. She added that student surveys and parent meetings are underway, so by the end of the week the exact number of students who will need financial support for the excursion will be known.
