Old Town Municipality Drives Pigeons Away from Baščaršija Due to Wooden Benches

After the Patria agency published an article about non-functional benches in Baščaršija Square, which were impossible to sit on due to bird droppings, the Old Town Municipality reacted by installing needle-like bird deterrents on Sebilj, and ultrasonic, inaudible protection on the poplar tree next to Sebilj, writes the BH news agency Patria.

- These benches were nice only in the first few days, look how dirty and actually non-functional they are now. The idea itself was good, but ultimately, the real effect was not achieved - a Sarajevan told Patria earlier.

However, the question now arises about the justification of such a procedure by the Old Town Municipality, given that pigeons and birds are a kind of attraction of Baščaršija, especially for tourists visiting Sarajevo. Wouldn't it have been easier to remove the benches that have been there since December 24, 2015, or move them elsewhere, than for the square to be without birds?
