Novi Grad Municipality: Contracts Signed for Scholarships for 59 Successful Athletes, Pupils and Students

(Patria) - In the Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality, contracts were signed today for scholarships for 59 pupils and student athletes who achieved outstanding sports results in the past competitive season at domestic and international competitions.

The attending scholarship recipients, their parents and coaches, as well as journalists, were addressed by the municipal mayor Semir Efendić. He welcomed and congratulated the winners of the sports scholarships on their achieved results.

Mayor Efendić said that the Novi Grad Municipality has been implementing this activity for several years, and that it started with a smaller amount of around 15,000 KM in the first year.

This year, 65,000 KM has been allocated for 59 pupils and students who achieved good sports results and thus earned the right to receive a scholarship from the Novi Grad Municipality for a period of ten months.

- Every year, the Municipality provides scholarships to around 600 students and pupils. In addition to this scholarship program, which is tied to the results and social status of our pupils and students, a special program for pupil and student athletes has also been introduced.

This is a nice opportunity to see each other, to congratulate you on your achieved results, and to hear from you, so we can learn in which sports the best successes have been achieved.

I would note that our famous athletes, Nedžad Husić, Ada Avdagić and Iman Avdić, have been recipients of these scholarships for several years.

I hope that a larger number of you, with the help of this scholarship, but above all through your effort, work, talent and dedication, will become successful and I hope that you will represent us in the best possible way, both the Novi Grad Municipality and Bosnia and Herzegovina, at all competitions you attend - said Mayor Efendić.

Among the scholarship recipients is Emina Čajić, a student at the Fifth Gymnasium in Dobrinja and a member of the Sarajevo City Water Sports Club. She has been training swimming for six years, and her great love for this sport has contributed to good results.

- At first I just swam, and then I started achieving good results. So far, I have participated in several national competitions, as well as the Mediterranean Games in Cyprus and the Central European Championship in Belgrade.

The support of the Novi Grad Municipality and the mayor means a lot to me, because otherwise we don't receive this kind of support, so it really means a lot to us - said Emina.

Mak Košpo is a national football representative and also a student at the Fifth Gymnasium in Dobrinja. Mak trains at OFK Olimpik, and previously played for FK Sarajevo.

- I am a national representative of BiH, and this is the first time I have received this scholarship. “I would like to thank the mayor and the Municipality for the scholarship, I will use the money to buy the equipment I need - said Mak.

Igor Palanadžić, father of the boy Andrej, who trains water polo at the Water Polo Club Torpedo at the Olympic Pool Otoka, thanked the mayor and his associates who in this way help pupils and students achieve better sports results and adequately represent our municipality, as well as the city and the state of BiH.

- Today there are about 60 pupils and students here, which is very nice. We also discussed the possibility of increasing the scholarship. Recently, this sport has become very popular in our country, and it is necessary to provide the best possible conditions for athletes involved in water polo - Palanadžić emphasized.

The Novi Grad Municipality invests significant funds in sports. This year, that amounts to around 800,000 KM to support the work of sports clubs and their program activities. Also, various sports activities and competitions are organized within the framework of the “Novogradski dani” event, along with significant investments in sports infrastructure.

Also, this year, the Otoka stadium received new artificial turf and lighting, which is why it is used more than before. In addition, three courts at the “Safet Zajko” Center have been covered with a balloon. Since last year, a tennis hall has also been in operation, and two new tennis courts were built this summer.

For the next year, the plan is to install artificial turf on the FK Dobrinja field, which is worn out and in poor condition.

By implementing the mentioned projects, the Novi Grad Municipality strives to do everything it can to create better conditions for sports and provide our athletes with everything they need.
