Municipality Builds Water Network, But Hundreds of Citizens Still Waiting for Utility Company to Connect Them

(Patria) - Although the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo built approximately 5.5 kilometers of water network in the Dobroševići local community in the past year and this year, hundreds of citizens in this part of the municipality are waiting for KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija" d.o.o. (Water and Sewerage Utility Company) to connect them to the city water network, for which they have already paid.

This concerns the project of reconstruction and construction of the water network in the streets 14. juni, Doljanska, Ramiza Hrvačića, Ahatovićka, Butilska, Šahidska, and Ranovačka, which are within the water supply zone of the "Donji Mihaljevići" reservoir and are supplied with water from the local water sources "Djevojačke vode" and "Igrište".

The Municipality has completed the laying of primary and secondary pipelines, and the pipes have been brought to the manholes for approximately 200 residential buildings, enabling connection to the public water network.



However, KJKP "Vodovod i kanalizacija", as the service provider, has not installed water meters or connected the residential buildings to the newly constructed water network.

Due to the negligence of KJKP ViK, citizens were deprived of city water during the summer and dry months and suffered water restrictions, as they were forced to obtain water from local sources with limited capacity.

The Municipality sent a letter in December 2023, and an urgent request in April of this year, for the connection of buildings. The deadlines for implementation have already been extended twice, and it is uncertain when all buildings will be connected to the city water supply system.

According to unofficial information, the connection of new users has not been carried out due to a lack of water in the ViK system, as well as a shortage of technicians who are exclusively focused on repairing breakdowns throughout the year.

Because of all this, the fact that repairs often take months to be completed is particularly concerning.
