Municipality of Centar wants to build the Museum of the Siege of Sarajevo

The Chairman of the Centar Municipal Council, Nedžad Ajnadžić, convened a meeting to discuss the continuation of the project "Museum of the Siege of Sarajevo – Art of Living '92-'96" (FAMA Collection), which is to be built at the Hastahana site in Marijin Dvor, reports the Patria News Agency.

The idea for the construction of this museum was initiated by a consortium composed of four organizations: FAMA International, MESS, Education builds BiH, and the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in BiH.

The meeting was attended by advisors Mustafa Resić and Emir Muminović, Assistant Head of the Department for Spatial Planning and Communal Affairs Alma Sadović, consortium representatives Suada Kapić and Edin Mustafić, as well as representatives of the municipal Commission for Veterans' Affairs and the Commission for Public Recognitions and Commemoration of Historical Events and Personalities, and representatives of veterans' associations from Centar.

The meeting confirmed the commitment of the leadership of the Municipality of Centar to bring the museum construction project to completion on land owned by the municipality, as this is, according to the attendees, our civilizational obligation, primarily for future generations, as a permanent testimony to the sacrifice made by citizens during the war siege of Sarajevo.

Acting on the conclusions of the Centar Municipal Council, the Department for Spatial Planning and Communal Affairs of the Municipality of Centar has begun activities to prepare documentation for the announcement of a public international call for the design of the museum.

FAMA Collection has prepared the museum content design task, which it has provided to the Municipality of Centar for the realization of this project. The idea advocated for was that the project be realized on the principle of public-private partnership, which would include, in addition to the Municipality of Centar and the consortium, veterans' associations from Centar and the City Administration.

During the next period, the possibility of building a memorial monument next to the museum building at the Hastahana site will be considered, for which financial resources have already been secured, it was announced from the Municipality of Centar.
