Centar Municipality supported Memorial Fund projects with 25,000 KM

On behalf of the Mayor of Sarajevo's Centar Municipality Dževad Bećirević, Secretary of the Municipal Administration Jasna Beba and the Mayor's Advisor Mustafa Resić hosted the Director of the Sarajevo Canton Fund for the Protection and Maintenance of Cemeteries of Martyrs and Fallen Soldiers, Memorial Centers and Memorials to Victims of Genocide (Memorial Fund) Nurudin Džiho. On that occasion, Džiho signed two documents based on which the Centar Municipality will co-finance projects of the Sarajevo Canton Memorial Fund with 25,000 KM, reports the Patria news agency.  

The agreement worth 20,000 KM, previously signed by Mayor Dževad Bećirević, pertains to financing the production and installation of headstones and memorials for martyrs, fallen defenders, and deceased war veterans of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina buried in cemeteries in the Sarajevo Canton area managed by the Memorial Fund.

Additionally, a protocol was signed on the realization of a grant in the amount of 5,000 KM from the budget of the Centar Municipality for the organization of the 16th edition of the event "Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Igman 2015."

According to Director Džiho, the funds allocated by the Centar Municipality to the Memorial Fund are very significant.

-We have major financial problems, because last year for the installation of headstones for martyrs and veterans we did not receive a single mark from the Sarajevo Canton budget, and we needed to install 314 headstones. To achieve that, we had to abandon certain projects. The Centar Municipality allocates significant funds every year and helps us so that we can install headstones and monuments.

This year we plan to install 286 headstones and monuments. I thank Mayor Bećirević and the Municipal Council for their great financial support to the Fund. Also, the Centar Municipality every year, including this year, helps organize the event Defense of BiH – Igman. Other local communities should follow the example of the Centar Municipality - emphasized Džiho, it was announced from the Centar Municipality.
