Municipality Centar allocated one million KM for education

Although education is not within its direct jurisdiction, the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo allocates significant funds from its budget every year to improve the educational process and the conditions of stay and work in preschool institutions, primary and secondary schools, and faculties, to provide scholarships for gifted pupils and students, to organize school competitions in knowledge, cultural and sports activities, and more, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Thus, almost one million convertible marks were allocated from this year's municipal budget to support education, and similar amounts were allocated in previous years.

Within these funds, after the budget rebalancing for 2016, a total of 365,600 marks were provided for the awarding of municipal scholarships "Prof. dr. Husein Kulenović" to high school and university students with high average grades, as well as to those from socially vulnerable families. 56,000 KM were also allocated for free transportation of primary school pupils who live at a greater distance from school and where there are no adequate public city transport lines, and 12,000 KM for the transportation of pupils with special needs and their companions, and 5,000 KM to the Center "Vladimir Nazor" for co-financing the "School in Nature" project.

In the budget of the Municipality of Centar for 2016, 85,000 marks were provided for the purchase of school lunches for primary school pupils from less affluent families.

The Municipality allocated 300,000 KM for improving the working conditions and equipment of preschool institutions, primary and secondary schools, and another 60,000 KM for higher education institutions. The funds are mainly intended for the renovation of facilities, and the purchase of various equipment and teaching aids.

An amount of 40,000 KM is intended for rewarding primary schools based on their overall achieved results. In addition, in order to encourage the best possible results in knowledge in certain subjects (mathematics, physics, geography, informatics, literature, technology, and cultural and artistic creativity), the Municipality has provided 25,000 KM for organizing competitions for primary school pupils in these areas. 15,000 KM were allocated for supporting the work of ecological sections and 13,000 KM for equipping school libraries. As in previous years, 8,000 KM were provided for the purchase of tickets for theatre performances for final-year primary school pupils.

At the beginning of each school year, the Municipality gifts first-graders school bags and supplies, for which 35,000 KM were allocated this year as well. In addition, 10,000 KM are regularly allocated to encourage Roma children to attend primary school regularly in the Centar municipality, and the same amount of funds is allocated to support educational institutions for projects of retraining and extraordinary schooling for members of the Roma population.
