Municipality Centar financially supported the Bee-fest beekeeping fair

Under the auspices of the Municipality Centar, and organized by the Bee-fest Directorate, the Beekeeping and Beekeeping Equipment Fair - Bee-fest opened on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Alija Izetbegović Square in Sarajevo.

This year's Bee-fest is another opportunity to promote BiH honey production, which has received the highest ratings from the international expert community. Beekeeping in Bosnia and Herzegovina has great potential, especially considering the quality of honey and the employment opportunities in less developed, rural areas.

The director of Bee-fest, Lejla Arnautović, said that the fair is dedicated to the promotion of medicinal herbs, beekeeping, and healthy eating.

- The support of the local community is of exceptional importance not only when it comes to finances but also when it comes to infrastructural support for our ideas and projects to be realized. Throughout the year, we have already realized several events aimed at promoting, presenting, and improving the sector of medicinal herbs, beekeeping, and organic food, but we are particularly proud of our projects aimed at raising awareness about the need to preserve the environment.

Our goal is also to draw attention to employment opportunities for unemployed young people, and to opportunities for earning additional income at home, in the rural parts of the Municipality Centar. We can proudly say that the Municipality Centar is the one that truly takes care of its agricultural producers and that for many years, incentives and support have been awarded to people who want to work in this sector. The amount of honey this year is significantly less compared to the previous period, due to extremely bad weather conditions accompanied by frequent rainfall.

Several types of honey characteristic of BiH are exhibited at the fair, such as meadow honey, acacia honey, sage honey, and forest honey. In addition to honey, as the most important bee product, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, as well as combinations based on honey and medicinal herbs, fruits and fruit products, and vegetables and vegetable products are exhibited. The fair also has a humanitarian character, and in that regard, we have organized clothing collection drives for our citizens, as well as book exchanges and donations for our schoolchildren - Arnautović explained.
